Artist statement
Pneuma is an Avery Lake experiment in the identities we inherit, perform, protect, and sometimes confuse with the self.
Family, belief, nation, title, screen, story, and emotions are not treated as false or meaningless. They are treated as constructed.
The work asks what remains when each constructed self is set down for a moment: breath, presence, here, now.
